District early intervention centre, 249 Children treated on inaugural day
way2barak December 19: The healthcare infrastructure of Cachar district received a significant boost with the formal inauguration of the District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) on Thursday. The DEIC is located in the premises of the Joint Director of Health’s bungalow, Trunk Road, Silchar, was inaugurated by Cachar District Commissioner, Mridul Yadav.
Speaking at the event, DC Yadav hailed the DEIC as a milestone for the district’s healthcare, particularly for children aged 0-18. He emphasized that the center will play a crucial role in providing primary treatment and early identification of illnesses, with provisions for referral to higher medical facilities when necessary. This initiative is expected to ease the burden on the District Hospital (S.M. Dev Civil Hospital) and Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
Notbly ,the DEIC is an annexe building of the district hospital and aims to cater to children under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK). On the inaugural day, free medical check-ups and treatment were provided to 249 children, identified under the RBSK program. The children, hailing from four health blocks of the district—Lakhipur (49), Sonai (48), Bikrampur (43), and Jalalpur (109)—also received free medicines.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by key dignitaries, including Joint Director of Health Services Dr. Ashutosh Barman, S.M. Dev Civil Hospital Superintendent Dr. Arup Patoa, SDM & HO (Epidemic duty) Dr. Shibananda Roy, District Immunization Officer Dr. Abdul Salam Sheikh, DEIC i/c General Manager Ikbal Bahar Laskar, and NHM District Program Manager Rahul Ghosh.
A team of specialists ensured comprehensive medical care during the health camp, including Pediatricians, Dr. Abdul Salam Sheikh and Dr. Keshav Pator, ENT specialist, Dr. Rima Patoa, Dentists Dr. Debashubhra Kundu and Dr. Rakesh Naruka, Dermatologist, Dr. Sandeep Roy, Ophthalmologist, Dr. Shibananda Roy, Ophthalmic Assistant Shoriful Hoque, audiologist ,Aalok Biswas and physiotherapist, Kunal Roy
Additionally, pharmacists Omar Ali, Mozammel Haque, Saiful Islam, and Abul Hossain Nur ensured medicine distribution, while the RBSK block coordinators, nurses, and health workers from Sonai, Lakhipur, Bikrampur, Jalalpur, and Borkhola contributed significantly to the camp’s success.
The DEIC is set to serve as a beacon of hope for children and families in Cachar, addressing a range of health issues and enhancing early medical intervention in the district.
