ID liquor, fermented wash destroyed at several places in Assam
July 11: Joint raids were conducted by the Kamrup Metro enforcement team against illicit liquor leading to seizure with several persons arrested. In raids conducted on Saturday at Sonapur Circle covering 13th Mile Bazaar,14th Mile Bazaar, Sonapur Bazaar and Samata areas under Sonapur Police Station, Gobardhan, Hajongbari, Chandrapur and Panikhaity areas under Pragjyotishpur Circle, the enforcement personnel seized and destroyed 250 litres of Illicitly Distilled (ID) liquor, about 500 kgs of fermented wash, one distilled apparatus, 32 bottles of Kingfisher beer of 650 ml each and 43 bottles of IMFL of 180 ml each.
Four persons have been arrested under Section 53(1)a of Assam Excise Act 2018. Earlier, three persons were arrested. They have been produced in court and remanded to judicial custody. In raids carried out on Friday in Haldibari area of Digaru in Sonapur, the enforcement personnel seized and destroyed 100 litres of ID, around 900 kgs of fermented wash and three numbers of distilled apparatus sets. One person has been arrested under Section 53 (1)a of Assam Excise Act, 2018
In a patrolling duty conducted by the Khanapara FS covering areas like Khanapara, Beharbari, Lokhra and ISBT, about 15 litres of ID liquor were seized and destroyed. One person has been arrested under Section 61B of Assam Excise Act and a fine of Rs.3,000 has been slapped.
Enforcement personnel also raided the Pandu Borobazar fish market and destroyed around 1,000 litres of ID liquor, two cases of IMFL of 180 ml each and 38 bottles of different brands. Four persons have been arrested with a total realisation of fine amounting to Rs.5,500. It may be mentioned that Minister for Excise, Parimal Suklabaidya had asked the Kamrup Metropolitan district administration in a review meeting to intensify drive against illicit liquor, including spurious sulai.
