Citizens urged to complete online census within August 16

way2barak, August 2:– The Self-Enumeration process (Phase-I) of the Census Operation, 2027 was formally launched in Cachar district on Sunday with an appeal to every citizen to complete the online census process within August 16 and actively participate in India’s first fully digital Census exercise.

The launching ceremony was organised by the District Administration, Cachar at the New Conference Hall of the Office of the District Commissioner, Cachar .

The programme was presided over by District Development Commissioner, Cachar, Rajib Roy, while Addl. District Commissioner cum District Census Officer, Cachar, Roktim Boruah presented a detailed overview of the Census Operations, 2027.

Welcoming the gathering, DDC Rajib Roy stated that the Census is one of the most important national exercises undertaken by the Government of India and serves as the basis for planning development programmes, improving public services and framing future policies. He stated that every citizen has an important role in making the exercise successful by providing accurate and complete information. Expressing satisfaction over the extensive preparations made across the district, he urged people to complete the Self-Enumeration process within the stipulated period and extend full cooperation to the Enumerators during household verification.

Presenting the district overview, District Census Officer Roktim Baruah informed that Census 2027 is being conducted entirely in digital mode, marking a new chapter in the country’s Census history. He stated that Cachar has 8 Census Charge Officers, comprising the Revenue Circles of Silchar Sadar, Sonai, Lakhipur, Udharbond and Katigorah along with Lakhipur Municipal Board, Sonai Municipal Board and Badarpur Municipal Board.

He also informed that Katigorah Rural Charge has 611 Enumerators and 102 Supervisors, Silchar Sadar Rural Charge has 850 Enumerators and 147 Supervisors, Udharbond Rural Charge has 262 Enumerators and 43 Supervisors, Sonai Rural Charge has 749 Enumerators and 127 Supervisors, Lakhipur Rural Charge has 483 Enumerators and 81 Supervisors, while Lakhipur Municipal Board, Sonai Municipal Board and Badarpur Municipal Board have 19, 32 and 25 Enumerators, supported by 3, 5 and 4 Supervisors respectively. Altogether, the district has 3031 Enumerators and 512 Supervisors to carry out the Census operations.

District Census Officer, Roktim Baruah further stated that training programmes for Enumerators and Supervisors commenced on July 20, 2026 at Cachar College, SM Dev College and other designated training centres across the district.

Explaining the Self Enumeration process, the DCO, Cachar stated that citizens can voluntarily submit their census details (Self-Enumeration) online from August 2nd to August 16th, 2026, through the official Census digital platform (se.census.gov.in). From August 17 to September 15th, 2026 Enumerators will visit each and every household to verify the submitted information and will collect data from households that have not completed Self-Enumeration or where corrections are required. The Population Enumeration of the Census Operation, 2027 ( phase-II) of the Census will be conducted from February 2027.

Referring to the previous Census, Shri Baruah, DCO Cachar informed that the population of Cachar district recorded in the 2011 Census was 17,36,319 and said that accurate information collected during the current Census would help governments prepare better development plans and deliver public services more promptly & effectively.

Addressing the gathering, Silchar MLA Dr. Rajdeep Roy appealed to citizens to make full use of the Self-Enumeration facility and complete the online process well before the deadline. He stated that reliable population data is indispensable for planning schools, hospitals, roads, housing, employment opportunities and other public infrastructure. Stressing the importance of public participation, Dr Rajdeep Roy said “An accurate and reliable Census forms the foundation of planned national development, good governance and effective implementation of public welfare programmes. Every citizen should participate sincerely in this national exercise.” He also urged the citizens to cooperate with Enumerators during the verification process so that the Census could be completed smoothly and accurately.

While talking at the launching event, Sonai MLA, Aminul Haque Laskar stated that the Census is not merely a statistical exercise but a national responsibility in which every household has an important role. He appealed to people across the district to complete Self-Enumeration within the prescribed period and encourage others to do the same so that Cachar could achieve complete and accurate coverage.

The programme was also attended by the Chief Executive Officer, Cachar Zilla Parishad, Dorothy Suchiang, Additional District Commissioners, Cachar Manojyoti Kutum, Devid Kumar Borah, Jagriti Kalwar, Dhrubajyoti Pathak, Chief Executive Officer, DDMA, Cachar, Assistant Commissioner and In-Charge, DDIPR, Barak Valley Zone, Silchar, Arunabh Choudhury, Asstt. Commissioner, Cachar and Nodal Officer, Census Nayan Moni Dutta, Circle Officer, Silchar Sadar Revenue Circle and Charge Officer, Arnav Kumar Baruah, Assistant Commissioners, Cachar alongwith other Officers, Officials and media representatives.

During the programme, the District Administration appealed to citizens to complete their Self-Enumeration through the official Census portal (se.census.gov.in) within August 16 and encourage their family members, neighbours and friends to take active participation in the said process and complete the same within stipulated time.

The District Administration reiterated that an accurate Census will benefit every citizen by providing authentic data for development planning, equitable distribution of resources and effective implementation of welfare programme. Citizens were also requested to extend full cooperation to the Enumerators during the household verification process scheduled from August 17 to September 15, 2026.
