Chief Minister issues instruction to fix rates for Covid treatment in pvt hospitals of Assam

June 4: In what seems to be a news of relief for the people of Assam, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has instructed the health department to fix the rates for treatment of Covid-19 patients in the private hospitals of the state. There has been reports that various private hospitals were charging a huge amount for treating the Covid patients, for which people had to face immense hardships during the pandemic. The “exorbitant rates” charged by private hospitals and nursing homes during the crisis period found mention many a times in several social media platforms.
The Chief Minister on Friday was chairing a meeting to take stock of the Covid-19 management in the state. The meeting was also attended by Health Minister Keshab Mahanta apart from several top officials of the state. The Chief Minister tweeted, “Issued instructions to fix the rates for #COVID19 treatment in private hospitals. Affordable rates have been fixed for both general & super-speciality wards. Also directed officials to ramp up the vaccination process to inoculate maximum people at the earliest.”

Apart from this, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma announced another significant decision regarding those Covid-19 patients who also had other comorbidities. The Chief Minister stated, “To bring positivity and mortality rates further down, Covid patients of any age group with any comorbidity will be kept in institutional quarantine.”
