Cachar witnesses SVEEP activities to boost voter awareness

way2barak, April 1 :— “Your vote is not just a right, it is your voice in shaping the future of the nation. As first-time voters, you carry both the privilege and the responsibility to participate actively and make informed choices,” This was stated by the Additional District Commissioner Smt. Jagriti Kalwar, while addressing an enthusiastic gathering of students at a SVEEP awareness programme held at Women’s College, Silchar here on Wednesday.
Exhorting the young women to step forward with confidence, she urged them to embrace their role in the democratic process and ensure that their participation reflects awareness, responsibility, and commitment.
Notably, the programme was organised under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative by the District Administration, Cachar highlighting electoral awareness and encourage greater participation among young and first time voters. The event was also witnessed by the students and the teachers of the Women’s college Silchar.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Director of Information & Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone, Silchar, Assam, Smt. Lucky Biswas, highlighted Silchar’s enduring identity as a significant cultural and educational centre of the state. She stated that the city has always demonstrated a strong sense of civic awareness and social responsibility. She further stated that initiatives like SVEEP serve as a catalyst in strengthening this tradition by promoting awareness about electoral processes and encouraging citizens to participate meaningfully in democracy.
Emphasising the role of youth as the cornerstone of a dynamic democracy, Smt. Biswas underscored the need for continuous engagement and awareness-building efforts to ensure that every eligible voter is informed and motivated. She called upon all sections of society to contribute collectively towards nurturing a conscious and participatory democratic culture.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, Principal of Women’s College, Silchar, Shri Sujit Tiwari, described India as the world’s largest democracy and stressed the importance of voter awareness among students. He also encouraged students to prioritise voting as a fundamental civic duty. He also expressed his gratitude to the District Administration, Cachar, for organising the awareness programme and informed that an EVM demonstration session would be conducted to familiarise students with the voting process.
The programme also featured a series of engaging activities including extempore speech, drama, and quiz competitions based on electoral awareness and the voting process. Students participated with enthusiasm thereby creating a keen understanding of democratic values.
Later, awards were handed over to winners of the competitions.
Officials from the SVEEP Cell of the District Administration, Cachar, were also present on the occasion.
The program was concluded with a vote of thanks by Professor Shri Amalendu Choudhury.
