Cachar gloriously celebrates District Day, rekindling legacy and unity at Gandhi Bhawan

Way2barak, June 13 : With a resounding sense of pride and historical reverence, the Cachar District Administration commemorated District Day with vibrant enthusiasm at Gandhi Bhawan, Silchar. The celebratory event, organised on Friday, witnessed a remarkable convergence of administrative officials, academicians, intellectuals, students, and local citizens each coming together to honour the rich legacy, cultural evolution, and developmental journey of Cachar.
The celebration commenced with soulful cultural performances that showcased the artistic heritage of the district. The atmosphere was imbued with deep reflection and collective aspiration as distinguished speakers recalled the historical roots and administrative milestones of Cachar, setting an inspirational tone for the day.

Gracing the occasion as Guest of Honour, District Development Commissioner, Norsing Bey, ACS, delivered a address underscoring the district’s steady march towards inclusive growth. “Cachar is not just a geographical entity, it is a living legacy of resilience, harmony, and progress. As we celebrate District Day, let us reaffirm our dedication to inclusive development that touches every corner of our society,” he remarked. He emphasized the District Administration’s ongoing commitment to grassroots development and citizen empowerment through participatory governance.
Echoing similar sentiments, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad, Pranab Kumar Bora, ACS, highlighted the pivotal role of rural Cachar in the district’s growth narrative. “Rural Cachar, with its industrious and culturally rooted population, is the true heartbeat of our district. The Panchayati Raj institutions, with renewed support from the administration, are becoming robust vehicles of transformation,” he observed. He also called upon the youth to draw inspiration from the district’s heritage and actively engage in shaping its future.
The keynote address was delivered by noted educationist and speaker Sanjib Dev Laskar, whose scholarly narration on Cachar’s historical evolution captivated the audience. “The foundation of Cachar district as an administrative unit is intertwined with the broader journey of Assam’s transformation during colonial and post-colonial times,” he stated. Laskar traced the district’s administrative origins, particularly the establishment of the District Commissioner’s Office in Silchar in the 19th century, which marked a transformative moment in the valley’s governance. He also paid tribute to the many visionaries whose leadership helped shape Cachar into a beacon of education, social harmony, and public service.

Adding further pride to the occasion, two distinguished recipients of the Assam Gaurav award from Cachar, Manthang Hmar and Nirmal Dey were felicitated and presented with Ayushman Gold Cards by DDC Norsing Bey in recognition of their remarkable contributions to society.
Earlier in the morning, a special blood donation camp was organised by the Cachar District Administration in collaboration with the Health Department at the District Commissioner’s Office. The initiative saw enthusiastic participation from District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, IAS, Assistant Commissioners Unhale Asish Vidyadhar, IAS, and Anjali Kumari, ACS, alongside numerous DC office staff, marking their tribute to the day through noble service.
Simultaneously, vibrant stalls were set up within the DC office premises by the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission, where women-led Self Help Groups displayed and sold handcrafted items, promoting local entrepreneurship and rural artisanship. The celebration concluded with a colourful cultural presentation by local artists. The event was also graced by Assistant commissioner, Bonnykha Chetia, ACS, Assistant commissioner cum incharge DDIPR Barak valley Zone Silchar Assam, Deepa Das ACS, Anjali Kumari, ACS, Nazir Prabir Kurmi and dedicated staff of the Cachar District Administration.
