Cachar District Administration unveils elaborate programme for 77th R- Day celebrations in Silchar

way2barak, Jan 25: The District Administration, Cachar, has drawn up an elaborate, disciplined and inclusive programme to commemorate the 77th Republic Day of India, to be observed with solemnity, patriotic fervour and widespread public participation across Silchar on Monday, January 26, 2026.

The central event of the celebrations will be held at the Police Parade Ground, where the national flag will be ceremonially unfurled at 9.00 am by the distinguished guest, followed by a grand combined march-past featuring contingents from the Sixth Assam Police Battalion, District Police, CRPF, BSF, Home Guards, NCC, Scouts and Guides, along with students from various educational institutions.

Meanwhile, all Heads of Departments and senior officers have been instructed to ensure that every Republic Day function organised under their respective departments and subordinate offices concludes with the patriotic song, reinforcing the spirit of nationalism, unity and reverence for the freedom movement.

The day’s observances will commence early with the playing of patriotic songs through fixed loudspeakers and mobile vehicle across the town from 5.30 am to 6.30 am, creating a festive national atmosphere. At 7.00 am, the tricolour will be hoisted at private residences and institutions, followed by flag hoisting and collective singing of the National Anthem at government offices, official residences, schools and colleges at 7.30 am.

As part of civic participation, school and college students will take out a disciplined procession towards the Police Parade Ground at 8.15 am, under the guidance of principals and teachers. Floral tributes will be offered at Mahatma Gandhi’s statue at Gandhibagh at 8.30 am, followed by homage at the Martyrs’ Memorial at 8.40 am, honouring the sacrifices of the nation’s heroes.

After the ceremonial welcome of guests at 8.55 am, the formal Republic Day programme will unfold with tableaux presented by various government departments and vibrant cultural performances from 10.00 am, showcasing Assam’s heritage, democratic values and developmental strides.

Highlighting its social commitment, the District Administration has also arranged fruit distribution drives from 11.20 am onwards at several institutions including Nirmala Orphan Home, Lions Eye Hospital, Shiv Sundari Women’s Education Ashram, Cachar Cancer Hospital, Silchar Medical College & Hospital, Satindra Mohan Dev Civil Hospital, Indian Red Cross Children’s Hospital, Silchar Central Jail, Sundari Mohan Seva Bhavan, Era Amader and Nivedita Children’s Home, with support from various social and trade organisations of Silchar.

Adding a sporting spirit to the celebrations, an exhibition cricket match will be held at 12 noon at the District Sports Association ground between the District Administration XI and the District Sports Association (Veterans) XI .

The day will conclude with the retreat of the national flag at 4.59 pm, while government offices, official residences, private buildings and statues of eminent personalities across Silchar will be illuminated from 5.00 pm, lending a festive glow to the town.

 

With the message of “Clean Cachar, Green Cachar, Beautiful Cachar,” the District Administration has appealed to citizens to participate wholeheartedly and uphold the ideals of the Constitution, making the 77th Republic Day celebration a true reflection of unity, discipline and democratic spirit.
