Budget Session of Assam Assembly begins on Monday; CM assures to honour agreement made with paper mill employees
Akhil Gogoi suspended on 1st day of Budget Sesson
March 14: The budget session of the Assam Assembly commenced on 14 March and will continue till April 1. At least 13 key bills will be tabled during the 19-day session. Finance minister Ajanta Neog will table the budget on March 16. This period will have 11 working days. This will be the second budget session under the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led BJP government.
The session began with the address of Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi. In his address, Governor Mukhi lauded the efforts of the Assam Government. He stated that the Assam govt has agreed to provide relief to affected employees and acquire the land of both the defunct paper mills of Nagaon and Panchgram. On this issue, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, “We have agreement with HPC employees of 750 crores including to pay their dues and electricity.”
On Day-1 of Budget Session, met legislators from our party & allies in a Legislature Party Meeting and apprised them of key focus areas of the Government, including Bills to be tabled in the Assembly. Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi was suspended from the House for allegedly disrupting the proceedings and interrupting the Governor’s speech. Speaker Biswajit Daimary removed Gogoi from the House after the latter kept protesting with a placard in his hand during the Governor’s speech.
