Bimolanshu Roy Foundation & GC College jointly organises interaction programme ‘Career in Nation Building’

I am here not to tell you how to get a job, but my purpose is to tell you which path to take: Dr Rajdeep Roy

March 5: “Our freedom struggle is full of incidents highlighting the supreme sacrifices made by the students, the youths for liberating Mother India from the clutches of foreign rule. They were one just like you. Right from Khudiram bose, Bhagat Singh to Chandra Sekhar Azad, there are multiple examples where the youths led the struggle from the front. Students of this generation should take inspiration from those stalwarts and take the nation ahead in multifarious fields.” This was said by Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy while addressing the students during an interaction programme entitled “Career in Nation Building” organised at GC College on Saturday.

The interaction programme “Career in Nation Building” was jointly organized by Bimolanshu Roy Foundation with Gurucharan College Silchar at its auditorium where the eligible son of late Advocate and ex-MLA Dr Rajdeep Roy delivered a motivational talk and interacted with the students in presence of the Principal of the College Dr Bibhash Deb, Dr Gopa Sinha, Dr Apratim Nag, Chandan Paul Choudhury and other teachers, staff and students.

Highlighting the aspect of nation building, MP Dr Roy said, “Nation building does not only means building of roads and bridges or building of any structure. During our student life, we were taught that the only option for a good career lies in becoming doctors or engineers. The only other option was to own a shop in a paternal piece of land by using the capital accumulated by the parents. I am not demeaning anyone of these. But the concept of career has now changed, especially in the last 30 years. Can you imagine a career as a YouTuber or a social influence? The present decades have widened the scope of emerging careers which also goes a long way in nation building.”

Dr Roy also spoke of the Citizenship Amendment Act passed by the Parliament, which he said would give protection to those minorities who faced religious persecution. “As a law-maker, I take satisfaction that under the leadership of PM Modiji, we were able to make a law which would give identity to those who took shelter in this country.”

“I am here not to tell you how to get a job, but my purpose is to tell you which path to take. Our Prime Minister has told our youths not to become job-seekers but to become job givers, which means after my graduation, I should not go and ask for jobs, but should always seek to become a job giver. Think of a situation where you can start an enterprise and give employment to others,” added the MP. He also said, “To my mind, the best profession is that of a teacher. There cannot be a 2nd profession to that of a teacher. However, during the British era, they destroyed our traditional way of learning and ingrained seeds of slavery in our minds.”

He also said that there is a difference between earlier politicians and a modern day law maker. He advised them to take the life of a law-maker. Earlier it was told, he said, “Politicians are the scoundrels of our society and that was ingrained in our minds. But the 1st line of that adage was not told to us. It is- Politics is the 1st resort of a gentleman. So the full sentence stands thus: Politics is the 1st resort of a gentleman and last resort of a scoundrel. That means, we were told only the last part and made to believe that one only. But now gradually this conception has gradually changed. I am pleased to inform you that now in the 16th Parliament, there were around 70 doctors and 90 lawyers. In the 17th Lok Sabha, there are 68 doctors and 110 lawyers out of 545 members. So you can imagine the change taking place in modern day politics.”

Dr Roy also shared many real-life stories highlighting the concept of starting modern day farming by highly qualified persons and also by film-stars and sportsperson. He also said that after politicians, the next profession which can make positive changes in the country are the bureaucrats. He said, “Many of you may dream of many careers and such dreams keep on shifting. If you are creating business and become a good citizen then you are indeed doing nation building. With the introduction of NEP 2020, the world of academics has changed. Students can now combine various subjects across disciplines and give vent to the latent talents.”

It needs mention here that Dr Rajdeep Roy through the Bimolangshu Roy Foundation has started an initiative of 50 lecture series and interaction with students of schools, colleges and universities. The inaugural lecture of the series was delivered by Dr Roy at Ramanuj Gupta Degree College, Silchar.
