Barak Valley registers 571 Covid +ve cases on Thursday; 2 deaths registered

Active cases 2,451 in Barak Valley

May 13: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Thursday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 571 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Wednesday, Barak Valley registered 613 positive cases. At present, there are 2,451 active Covid cases in Barak Valley.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Thursday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 398 positive cases   (It was 370 on Wednesday)
  • Karimganj: 92 positive cases (It was 126 on Wednesday)
  • Hailakandi: 81 positive cases (It was 117 on Wednesday)

A total of 398 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Wednesday in Cachar. As per records, 398 positive cases in a day is the highest single day spike of Covid cases in Cachar district since the outbreak of the pandemic. As per the updated data, a total of 1,994 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, a total of 205 persons were found positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas 193 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed, District Surveillance Officer (DSO), IDSP, Cachar on Thursday night. With this, the total number of Covid cases in 2021 reached 3,607 in 2021, whereas during the year, 2,452 patients were discharged. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has reached 1,129.

Thursday witnessed demise of two more Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). However, none of them were from Cachar district. This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board as per the protocol. Out of the 02 deceased at SMCH on 13 May, 01 of them is from Karimganj district, while the other is from Hailakandi. The deceased were identified as: Rijiya Begum Barbhuiya (45) from Algapur in Hailakandi district and P.K. Bhattacharjee (68) from Badarpur in Karimganj district

Hailakandi registered 81 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday. Of the 81 positive cases detected on Thursday, 69 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 12 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 546 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 737 RAT tests and 48 RT-PCR tests were done. 71 patients were discharged during the day. It needs mention here that 117 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Wednesday.

Karimganj reported 92 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 5,642. Of the 92 active cases detected on Thursday, 82 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and 10 under RT-PCR..

The district has altogether 776 active COVID-19 cases while 77 patients have been discharged from hospital and home isolation on Thursday. 1,582 swab samples were collected on Thursday. Altogether 2,45,176 samples have been tested so far. 11 persons with high risk contacts were traced and tested on Thursday. The district has currently 19 active containment zones.

On Thursday, out of 59,594 tests, 5,468 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 3,15,554. The positivity rate in the state is 9.18 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1,173 positive cases during the day. Further, on Thursday, 75 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 1,984. On Thursday, 4,219 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 2,70,079 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged.

Further, during the day, 75 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 75 deceased, 23 are from Kamrup Metro; 7 from Dibrugarh; 5 each from Kamrup Rural & Tinsukia; 3 each from Barpeta, Darrang, Golaghat, Nalbari, Sonitpur & Karbi Anglong; 2 each from Bongaigaon, Hojai & Nagaon; 1 each from Udhalguri, Charaideo, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Goalpara, Hailakandi, Jorhat, Karimganj, Lakhimpur & Morigaon. The death tally of the state now stands at 1,984.
