Barak Valley registers 359 Covid +ve cases on Wednesday, 606 discharged & 5 deaths recorded
There are 3,916 active Covid cases in Barak Valley
June 16: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Wednesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 359 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. Further, during the day, 606 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 3,916 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, Barak Valley registered 385 positive cases.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Wednesday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 262 positive cases (It was 259 on Tuesday)
- Karimganj: 66 positive cases (It was 74 on Tuesday)
- Hailakandi: 31 positive cases (It was 52 on Tuesday)
A total of 262 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Wednesday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 4,760 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 191 persons were found positive, whereas 71 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 15,801, whereas during this phase, 13,453 patients were discharged. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has reached 2,192. This was informed by DIPRO Cachar on Wednesday night. Also, 431 patients were discharged during the day. Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 15 June to 5 PM on 16 June) witnessed demise of 05 Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. Out of the 05 deceased on Wednesday, 03 of them are from Cachar, 01 from Karimganj district and the other is from Hailakandi.
The deceased were identified as Bindiya Rani Singha (58) from Kabuganj in Cachar, Amulya Suklabaidya (77) from Lakhinagar Part-II in Hailakandi district, Paresh Kanu (55) from Bidyanagar in Karimganj, Ganesh Chandra Das (90) from Banglaghat in Cachar and DB Gurung (70) from Kumbhirgram in Cachar.
Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 16 June, there were 148 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 90 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 58 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 20 patients were put under ventilator support and 109 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 23 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 30 of them were discharged. Further, 18 of them have opted for home isolation.
Hailakandi registered 31 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. Of the 31 positive cases detected on Wednesday, 31 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and none were found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 673 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,713 RAT tests and 284 RT-PCR tests were done. 97 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,249. As of now, a total of 3,164 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 52 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Tuesday.
As of now, in the 60,510 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine (irrespective of age), whereas, 17,624 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.
Karimganj registered 66 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. The district has currently 1,051 active COVID-19 cases, while 78 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Wednesday. 3,705 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 74 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, out of 1,30,053 tests, 3,286 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 4,69,976. The positivity rate in the state is 2.60 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 158 positive cases during the day. Further, on Wednesday, 36 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 4,064. The recovery rate is 90.70 percent.
It needs mention here that on Tuesday, 3,415 persons tested positive in Assam and 34 deaths were registered.
