Assam University prohibits rally or procession inside its campus during semester examসেমিস্টার পরীক্ষা চলাকালীন আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় চত্বরে সমাবেশ-মিছিলে নিষেধাজ্ঞা
January 07: At a time, when the country is witnessing students movement throughout the length and breadth of the country, the incident of mob violence in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi has further aggravated the situation. Students of various other higher educational institutions have come out denouncing the barbarity inflicted upon the students of JNU.
Meanwhile, Assam University, Silchar has come out with a proactive order to tackle any such type of students’ unrest. In an order issued by Dr. P.K. Nath, Registrar in-charge of Assam University on 7 January, it was stated that any rally or procession inside the campus during semester examination is strictly prohibited. It was further stated that rally, procession etc. in the campus is subject to prior permission of the University authority.
On Tuesday, late evening, the day when the Registrar in-charge issued this order, around hundred students of Assam University along with the General Secretary of the Students’ Union assembled near the main gate and registered a democratic protest against the physical assault launched upon their counterpart in JNU. With candle in their hands, the students of the varsity sat for protest demonstration near the main gate. It, however, needs mention that the students did not conduct any rally or procession inside the varsity campus.
