Assam University organised Yoga Workshop in Shilpogram Villagers
way2barak February 23: Assam University organized a workshop on “Yoga for a Healthy Life” in Shilpogram Village through the Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems (CIKS) and the NSS Cell on February 23, 2025.
The Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems, in collaboration with the NSS Cell of Assam University, Silchar, successfully conducted this outreach program in Shilpogram, a village near Assam University. The workshop primarily focused on promoting yoga among the youth as a means to enhance overall well-being.
The event commenced with an inaugural session, graced by Prof. Gangabhushan M, Director, Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems, Dr. Ajita Tiwari, Co-PI of the Centre, and Dr. Chetan Khobragade, NSS Programme Officer. The speakers delivered insightful lectures emphasizing the significance of yoga in daily life, highlighting its potential to improve physical health, mental well-being, and spiritual harmony. They also underscored how traditional knowledge systems not only instil pride in India’s cultural and philosophical heritage but also offer practical guidance for leading a balanced and fulfilling life.
The practical component of the workshop was conducted by Mr. Shubhankar Saha and Mr. Rahul Chakraborty from Niramay Yog Shiksha Sansthan, Silchar. They led interactive yoga sessions, demonstrating both preventive and curative aspects of various yogic exercises. Participants actively engaged in learning basic postures, breathing techniques, and relaxation methods, which are known to alleviate stress, enhance concentration, and foster overall well-being.
The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from approximately 70-80 villagers from Shilpogram, alongside faculty members from Assam University. Among the distinguished attendees were Rajaram Pashi from Shilpogram, Tara Shankar Goswami, from the local youth club, who contributed to the success of the program with their presence and support.
By integrating yoga into daily life, the event aimed to empower the community with holistic health practices, aligning with the broader vision of preserving and promoting Indian knowledge traditions for societal well-being.
