Annoyed & disgruntled, Dilip Paul decides to contest election as independent candidate

Dilip Paul resigns from the primary membership of BJP

March 10: Being robbed off his claim of representing Silchar Assembly Constituency for the 3rd consecutive term from BJP, Dilip Kumar Paul vented out his protest claiming that the way in which he was deprived off and neglected by the party was definitely not acceptable. Saying so, he unequivocally stated in a press meet on Wednesday that he would contest the ensuing Assembly Elections  2021 from the prestigious Silchar seat as an independent candidate. Further,  he also stated that he has tendered his resignation from the primary membership of BJP.

In a tone of regret and remorse, the former MLA Dilip Kumar Paul lashed out that he had to pay the price for being honest in his 37 years long political career. He said that this was his coveted price for raising his voice against syndicate led by eminent leaders of the party.

He showered lofty praises on the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. However, he was quick to add that the CM is helpless in the present situation. “The party is now in the hands of those who have recently joined BJP leaving other parties. These new comers are now busy giving advice to us,” added Mr. Paul. Taking a dig at Himanta Biswa Sarma, Dilip Paul said that, “Yesterday Himanta Biswa Sarma said that due to a particular reason, I was not given the ticket. Only Dr Sarma would be able to answer as to why I was deprived of the party ticket. If he has courage, he should speak up.”

Without naming anyone, Dilip Kumar Paul said, “Had I done corruption in the name of LPG cylinders, then I might have been eligible for the party ticket. Had I been a part of the syndicate Raj, I would have been nominated by the party…. But I have not forgotten my ideology and remained an honest soldier of the party. This is the price of being honest. I am not angry for depriving the party ticket. But the way, I was treated is indeed very insulting,” uttered the disgruntled leader.
