Those involved in communal violence and attacked Durga Puja pandals won’t be spared: PM Hasina

Oct. 15: In a shocking state of affairs, multiple incidents of attacks on Durga Puja pandals and idols have been reported from Bangladesh. At least five incidents of vandalism against Durga idols have been reported in various parts of the country, especially on Maha Asthami.  Reacting to this, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that people involved in the attacks on Hindu temples won’t be spared and would be hunted down and punished.

Atleast four persons were killed in the violence that took place after a news spread on social media that Quran was allegedly desecrated at a pandal in Comilla town in Bangladesh. Prime Minister Hasina while exchanging greetings with people of the hindu community during an event at Dhakeshwari National Temple in Dhaka on the occasion of Durga Puja termed the incident of vandalising temples in Cumilla “very unfortunate” and said, “Exemplary punishment will be given to all those who are engaged in vandalising puja pandals and idols. We are getting a large amount of information and will definitely trace those who carried out the attacks.”

“Religion is for individuals and festival is for all and we enjoy every festival together,” added the prime Minister of Bangladesh.
