The ‘Barak Bandh’ on Saturday shall begin at 5.00 A.M in the morning and end at 5.00 P.M in the evening. Meanwhile, Silchar District Congress Committee (DCC) has also lent moral support to ACKHSA on this issue. “Aamra Bangali” and some other non-political organisations have also come in support of ACKHSA.

Expressing his views, Rupam Nandi Purakayastha said, “Mizo miscreants with the support of Mizoram government has ushered in a reign of terror in the bordering areas. They have also indulged in abducting the inhabitants of Assam residing in bordering districts of Cachar. Recently, they have even killed one such citizen of Assam. This could not be tolerated. We strongly condemn such atrocities by Mizoram upon the people of Assam.” He further said that inspite of high level talks between the two states, Mizoram is continuing its aggression. It is in this backdrop that ACKHSA has given a call for 12 hours Barak Bandh on Saturday from 5 AM to 5 PM.

Meanwhile, in view of the proposed Barak Bandh on Saturday, the Cachar district administration has beefed up security in Silchar and other parts of the district. The administration has deputed Executive Magistrates to look after specific areas. In an order issued to this effect on Friday by District Administration, it was stated that, “The Magistrates will take appropriate steps as they deem fit and proper to deal with law and order situation and they will report directly to the District Magistrate and also Additional District Magistrate i/c Magistracy Branch from time to time about the law and order situation in their respective areas.”
