Guardian Minister Ashok Singhal directs to arrange toilets & drinking water facilities in schools of Cachar

Ashok Singhal terms Cachar tour as "learning experience" & lauds district's vaccination efforts.

July 5: Minister for Urban Development and Irrigation and Guwahati Development Ashok Singhal, who is also the Guardian Minister for Cachar district on Sunday said that time bound implementation of Government schemes in Cachar district maintaining quality and delivery pattern will be a priority.

Addressing a press conference at the office of Cachar Deputy Commissioner Singhal informed that steps would be taken for setting up of toilets, drinking water facilities in the Government schools of the district. The Minister told reporters in the presence of Cachar DC Keerthi Jalli, MLAs of Silchar Lakhipur and Udharbond, namely, Dipayan Chakraborty, Kaushik Rai and Mihir Kanti Shome that a report submitted by the District Elementary Education Officer of Cachar district suggests that 64 Government Schools in the district do not have toilets for girl students while 101 toilets need repair work; 174 such schools do not have toilets for the boys and toilets in 214 schools need to be repaired. As many as 336 schools need arrangement of drinking water facilities along with 413 schools need electrification at the earliest. All these would be completed within next 120 days. The Cachar Deputy Commissioner will keep strict vigil in the progress of the works, the minister added.

Singhal further mentioned that the Government would take special measures to implement Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to connect every home with safe drinking water under Jal Jeevan Mission in the district. He informed that measures are being initiated to boost farming infrastructure of the pineapple growers of the district and Cachar DC would lead the Mission Pineapple campaign. He informed that following discussion with principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, he has learnt that the health infrastructure of the hospital needs a face-lift especially in the cardiology and neurology department.

The Minister lauded the efforts taken by District administration in respect of vaccination drive and said, “The district administration has been working relentlessly to intensify the vaccination drive. On one of the days, Cachar was in top 3 in the entire state which is a matter of pride and we must appreciate the efforts of the the Frontline Warriors on the ground. While we have stayed indoors for the most part of the pandemic, they were the people braving outdoors, wearing masks and PPE kits. They are our own people and we must keep faith in them and appreciate their efforts.” Further, the Minister informed that the Swaccha Bharat Mission in the district would be streamlined in the next three months and plan for better drainage, streetlights, and traffic lights would be initiated.

Earlier in the day, the Minister visited the residence of ex-MLA, Silchar, late Bimalangshu Roy and met his family members. Later he went to G.C College and laid the foundation stone of Bishnu Charan Dey Memorial Building at Gurucharan College, Silchar in presence of MLA Silchar Dipayan Chakraborty and MLA Lakhipur Koushik Rai, Principal Dr. Bibash Deb, President of College Governing Body- Jyoti lal Chowdhury and other faculty members.
Ashok Singhal also visited Khaspur village under Udharbond constituency and inspected the site of ancient Dimasa kingdom.
