Barak Valley registers 122 Covid +ve cases on Tuesday, 310 discharged & 1 death at SMCH

There are 1,618 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

June 29: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Tuesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 122 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. Further, during the day, 310 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 1,618 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Monday, Barak Valley registered 138 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Tuesday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 65 positive cases   (It was 72 on Monday)
  • Karimganj: 48 positive cases (It was 45 on Monday)
  • Hailakandi: 09 positive cases (It was 21 on Monday)

 A total of 65 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Tuesday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 4,975 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 48 persons were found positive, whereas 17 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 17,544, whereas during this phase, 16,649 patients were discharged. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 728.  Also, 161 patients were discharged during the day.  Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley for more than a month. But for two consecutive days, Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) did not witness the demise of any Covid-19 positive patient. However, the last 24 hours (5 PM on 28 June to 5 PM on 29 June) witnessed demise of 01 Covid-19 positive patient at SMCH. The detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Tues evening. The deceased was identified as:

  • Rajlakshmi Sharma (47) from Bajaricherra in Karimganj district was admitted at SMCH on 27 June. She however, passed away at 8.30 PM on 28 June.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 29 June, there were 137 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 55 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 82 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 12 patients were put under ventilator support and 88 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 21 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 13 of them were discharged.

Hailakandi registered only 09 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. Of the 09 positive cases detected on Tuesday, 08 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) whereas 01 person was detected positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 194 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,467 RAT tests and 293 RT-PCR tests were done. 57 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,497. As of now, a total of 3,884 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 21 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Monday.

Karimganj registered 48 fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. The district has currently 696 active COVID-19 cases, while 92 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Tuesday. 4,297 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 45 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Monday.

On Tuesday, out of 1,01,222 tests, 2,672 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 5,06,005. The positivity rate in the state is 2.64 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 149 positive cases during the day. Further, on Tuesday, 27 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 4,509. The recovery rate is 93.77 percent. On Tuesday, 1,996 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 4,74,457 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged.  At present, there are 25,692 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 27 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 27 deceased, 04 are from Tinsukia; 03 each from Biswanath & Jorhat; 02 each from Dibrugarh & Kokhrajhar; 01 each from Barpeta, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dima Hasao, Goalpara, Golaghat, Kamrup Metro, Kamrup Rural, Karbi Anglong, Karimganj, Morigaon, Sivasagar & Udalguri. The death tally of the state now stands at 4,509.
