Budget suggestion by SSMS: Completion of Dist Library auditorium, cultural affairs office in Silchar
June 29: Ahead of the first State Budget of the 15th Assam Legislative Assembly, state Finance Minister Ajanta Neog on Saturday released an e-mail ID and a WhatsApp number seeking advice from the public on the preparation of the budget for the financial year 2021-22. The e-mail id is assambudgetsuggestions@gmail.com and the WhatsApp number is 76368-79019. The State Budget for the financial year 2021-22 will be tabled in the Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) on July 16, 2021.

Suggestions in this connection were sent to the State Finance Minister by Sammilito Sanskritik Mancha, Silchar (SSMS) on Monday. SSMS is a conglomeration of 32 cultural organisations of Silchar and its vicinity. The followings suggestions were put forward by SSMS:
- Initiation of work of proposed Swami Vivekananda Cultural Complex and Research Centre in Silchar. The foundation stone of the centre was laid by former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. SSMS urged upon the Finance Minister to make budget allocation for this project.
- Completion of now demolished District Library Auditorium in Silchar by 2022. Former CM Sarbananda Sonowal also laid down its foundation stone. However, due to administrative hurdles, the work could not be started. Sammilito Sanskritik Mancha requested the Minister to provide budget allocation for this project also.
- SSMS put forth the demand of constructing a museum in Silchar as envisaged by former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
- To provide financial aid to the artists at this pandemic hour as most of them are devoid of regular programmes.
- Demand for another auditorium in New Silchar area.
- SSMS also urged upon the Finance Minister for budget allocation for setting up of a full fledged Cultural Affairs office in Silchar which would cater to the needs of entire Barak Valley.
