Barak Valley registers 340 Covid +ve cases on Thursday, 674 discharged & 1 death recorded

There are 3,505 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

June 17: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Thursday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 340 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day.  Further, during the day, 674 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three  districts of the valley. At present, there are 3,505 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Wednesday, Barak Valley registered 359 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Thursday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 236 positive cases   (It was 262 on Wednesday)
  • Karimganj: 60 positive cases (It was 66 on Wednesday)
  • Hailakandi: 44 positive cases (It was 31 on Wednesday)

 A total of 236 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Wednesday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 7,885 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 157 persons were found positive, whereas 79 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 15,963, whereas during this phase, 14,010 patients were discharged. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 1,799.  Also, 553 patients were discharged during the day. Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 16 June to 5 PM on 17 June) witnessed demise of 01 Covid-19 positive patient at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. His detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. The deceased is from Hailakandi town. However, none from Cachar died at SMCH during the day. The deceased from Hailakandi was identified as:

  • Sutapa Chanda (38) from Ward No. 4 in Hailakandi was admitted at SMCH on 14 June. She, however, passed away at 10.30 AM on 17 June.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 17 June, there were 140 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 78 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 46 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 13 patients were put under ventilator support and 102 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 11 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 34 of them were discharged. Further, 15 of them have opted for home isolation.

Hailakandi registered 44 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday. Of the 44 positive cases detected on Thursday, 44 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and none were found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 657 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 2,403 RAT tests and 325 RT-PCR tests were done. 59 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,293. As of now, a total of 3,223 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 31 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Wednesday.

As of now, in the 61,023 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine (irrespective of age), whereas, 17,749 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.

Karimganj registered 60 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday. The district has currently 1,049 active COVID-19 cases, while 62 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Thursday. 3,499 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 66 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Wednesday.

On Thursday, out of 1,54,264 tests, 3,477 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 4,73,453. The positivity rate in the state is 2.25 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 169 positive cases during the day. Further, on Thursday, 41 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 4,105. The recovery rate is 91.08 percent. On Thursday, 4,949 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 4,31,208 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged.

Further, during the day, 41 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 41 deceased, 09 are from Jorhat; 04 each from Kamrup Metro, Tinsukia & Sivasagar; 03 each from Goalpara, Golaghat, Nagaon & Sonitpur; 01 each from Baksa, Barpeta, Cachar, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Karbianglong & Udalguri. The death tally of the state now stands at 4,105.
