Green corridor: Patient die of cardiac arrest after re-admitting him in ICU at SMCH

June 1: In an unfortunate turn of events, 68-year-old PK Mishra, a patient of post-Covid complication ultimately breathed his last due to a sudden cardiac arrest on Tuesday evening after being readmitted in the Central ICU at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). He passed away at 6.20 PM on 1 June just after an hour of readmitting him in the ICU. The patient in a critical condition was taken to Silchar Airport where an air ambulance was ready to fly him at AMRI Bhubaneswar in Odhisa. But the doctor accompanying the air ambulance examined the patient and declared that he was not in a position to fly. On his recommendation, the patient was again brought at SMCH. However, he suffered a cardiac arrest while he was shifted from the ambulance to the ICU.

Everything happened as per the plan. Green corridor was also arranged on Tuesday afternoon as per the prior permission of the administration. The patient was moved out of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) in an ambulance which went away rapidly through the Green Corridor and reached Silchar Airport at the stipulated time, where an air ambulance was already waiting to fly the patient to AMRI Bhubaneswar. But then the accompanying doctor in the air ambulance on examining the patient informed that he is not in a condition to fly. Finally, understanding the risks and obliging to the doctor who accompanied the air ambulance, the patient was brought back to SMCH.

As per reports, PK Mishra (68), Manager of Dery Tea Estate was detected as Covid positive. However, after a few days, he tested negative. But since then, he came into the grip of post-Covid complications. He developed severe lungs infection. He was admitted in the ICU at SMCH. Mr Mishra hails from Odisha. His daughter wanted to fly her father in an air ambulance at Bhubaneswar for treatment. Air ambulance, green corridor- everything was arranged, but ultimately the patient could not be taken to Bhubaneswar.

Though the district administration granted permission and issued orders for creation of green corridor on the basis of the application made by the daughter of the patient, but it was also clearly stated that the condition of the patient may deteriorate if he is taken out of the ICU. Finally, the 68-year-old patient PK Mishra breathed his last.
