3 districts of Barak Valley prepared for Panchayat Election on Sunday

December 8: Ten districts of Assam along with Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi is all set to go for Panchayat Election on 9 December. Out of the 26 districts of Assam, polling in 16 districts took place on 5 December. The remaining 10 districts where Panchayat Elections in the second phase will be held on 9 December are: Nalbari, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, South Salmara-Mankachar, Goalpara, Cachar, Hailakandi, Karimganj and Hojai.

2nd Phase Poll in 10 District: A total of 9428 polling stations in the 10 districts of Assam will witness polling during the second and final phase of Panchayat polls on Sunday. In the second phase, a total of 65,21,518 voters will exercise their franchise, out of which 33,77,014 are male voters and 30,44,504 are female. A total of 35,056 candidates will be contesting the polls during the 2nd phase, out of which, 169 for ZPC (716 candidates), 895 APM (3205 candidates), 895 for GPP (3512 candidates) and 8950 for GPM (27,623 candidates)

Cachar: At Cachar alone, there are a total of 1659 polling stations. For smooth management, 733 poll parties started for equal number of polling stations with ballot boxes and other materials on Friday; whereas, the rest 926 polling teams left on Saturday from ISBT and ISTT located at Ramnagar. A total of 3700 polling staff went on Friday to 733 different polling stations on Friday. Around 1000 police accompanied them. On Saturday, 4700 polling staff accompanied by around 1300 security staff went for the remaining 926 polling stations. A total of 96 sector officers have been deployed for the district of Cachar. Almost 10,54,554 voters would be exercising their franchise on Sunday.

 

Hailakandi: There are a total of 626 polling booths in Hailakandi district. Polling personnel left for different destinations accompanied by police and other security personnel both on Friday and Saturday. 88 zonal and sector officers have been detailed and 77 non-ACS officers vested with powers of executive magistrate for smooth and peaceful conduct of the election to 11 ZPMs, 62 APMs, 62 GPPs and 620 GPMs. The district has a total electorate of 3,87,132, of whom 2,13,309 are male and 1,73,823 female. 3,220 candidates are in the fray – 80 for ZPM, 345 for GPP, 335 for APM and 2,460 for GPM. Election Observer Nirmal Kanti Debnath was found to be extra vigilant to make the polls error free. All election works, including counting will take place at S.S. College, Hailakandi.

Karimganj: There are a total of 975 polling booths in Karimganj district. A total of 7,47,59 persons will be exercising their franchise on Sunday. A total of 3837 candidates will be contesting the Panchayat Polls 2018 from Hailakandi, out of which 85 for ZPM, 311 APM, 352 GPP and 3089 for GPM. All election related works, including counting will take place at Karimganj College.

The results for the Panchayat Election will be declared on 12 December.
