224 persons test Covid-19 +ve in Cachar till 6 PM on Wednesday; 3 dies at SMCH

19 air passengers detected positive on Wednesday

May 12:  A total of 224 new cases of COVID-19 was reported till 6.00 PM on Wednesday in Cachar. The number of positive cases is expected to rise towards the night. During the day, 206 persons were found positive in Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT), whereas 18 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Wednesday evening.

Further, during the day, 448 air passengers arrived at Silchar Airport, who did Covid test at Mahatma Gandhi Model Hospital, Tikal, wherein 19 of them were found positive. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, 262 persons were detected as Covid-19 positive in Cachar.

 

Dr. Bhaskar Gupta further informed that a total of 223 active coronavirus patients are admitted at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH), out of which, 187 of them are in Covid ward and 36 at ICU. Out of the 187 patients in Covid Ward, 80 are in oxygen support. In the ICU, out of the 36 patients, 12 are in ventilation and 24 are kept in oxygen support. On Wednesday, 11 new patients were admitted whereas, 22 of them were discharged.

Wednesday witnessed demise of three more Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board as per the protocol. Out of the 3 deceased at SMCH on 12 May, 2 are from Karimganj district, while 01 is from Hailakandi. The deceased were identified as: Md Nazim Uddin Barbhuiyan (69) from Ward No 3 in Hailakandi, Kishore Das Gupta (60) from Badarpur in Karimganj district and Chandanlal Sen (75) also from Badarpur in Karimganj district
