2 more students test Covid +ve after appearing in TDC exam at Radhamadhab College on Tuesday

April 27: In a tragic turn of events, another two students were detected as Covid-19 positive on Tuesday after appearing in the ongoing TDC (CBCS) Odd Semester Examination at Radhamadhab College (RMC), Silchar. Out of the two, though one of them is a student of B.Com 5th semester of N.C. Paul Memorial College, Silchar, but he appeared in the exam from the RMC Centre. He was not feeling well and so the Principal of the college made provision for his exam in an isolated room on Tuesday. Another female student of Radhamadhab College, (BA 5th Sem) also was feeling unwell on coming to examination. She too was made to appear in the exam in isolated room.

Confirming this, Principal of the College, Dr. Debashish Roy said that though not by the students or their parents, but one of the teachers informed me about these two new positive cases. The need of the hour is now to postpone the offline examinations. “Another student of NC Paul College who appeared from RMC tested positive on last Saturday. So till now, 3 of our students have been detected as Covid-19 positive during the ongoing TDC exam. This is indeed very alarming. A situation of fear is prevailing among the students, teachers and staff,” added the Principal.

Expressing his views, Sudarshan Gupta, Head, Department of History of RMC and a member of the Academic Council of Assam University said, “Look, we the college teachers had insisted to postpone the ongoing offline exams from 27 April in the meeting of the Standing Committee of Academic Council of the varsity held on 26 April, but our plea was turned down and the University opined in favour of continuing the exam in offline mode and as such the exam was conducted on Tuesday in which 2 of our students were found positive. Had the university agreed to our plea of postponing the exam from 27 April, then this adverse situation would not have taken place in our college.”

Sudarshan Gupta, however, was quick to thank the Assam Government and the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar to have taken the decision of closing all educational institutions (from pre-primary to university) in Cachar district for 15 days, that is, till 12 May, 2021 in the backdrop of the rising number of Covid-19 cases.
