More than a dozen houses allegedly burnt in Assam – Mizoram border of Hailakandi district
Feb. 9: In a disturbing development, fresh incidents of violence were reported alongside the Assam Mizoram border of Hailakandi district on Tuesday. As per reports, more than a dozen houses were torched. Violence broke out in Kachurthal area of Katlicherra in Hailakandi district. Tension broke out between the people of the two states centering an alteration of words in connection with ongoing construction work.
Top district police officials of Hailakandi rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Though DC Hailakandi Megha Nidhi Dahal accepted the fact that some border tension has broken out, but could not divulge much details. He added that it was too early to comment as he was still awaiting for ground reports.
Three districts of Mizoram – Aizawl, Kolasib and Mamit share a 164.6-km-long inter-state border with Assam”s Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj district. It is not the 1st time that such incidents were reported alongside the Assam – Mizoram border. Infact, numerous houses in Cachar and Hailakandi were also burnt earlier allegedly by “Mizo miscreants. Infact, Central armed forces were deployed on either side of the border after yet another clash in November 2020.
