VDP Day observed in befitting manner in Hailakandi
Jan.24: Hailakandi DEF organised a day-long Village Defence Party Day here on Sunday. VDP volunteers from all six police stations of the district participated in the varied programmes lined up for the day. Deputy Commissioner, Megh Nidhi Dahal unfurled the VDP flag in presence of Superintendent of Police, Pabindra Kumar Nath at Rabindra Bhawan premises in the morning.
SP, Nath said the central VDP Day will be celebrated this year in Sivsagar and in conformity with the central function, each district has been directed to observe the day prior to the central celebration by the Assam Police headquarters. To unearth the latent talents of VDP personnel, both male and female, a host of events like kabaddi, musical chair, tug of war and blind hit were organised at the Rabindra Mela ground.
The programme concluded with an open session at Rabindra Bhawan auditorium followed by prize distribution ceremony. The open session was attended by Deputy Advisor, VDP, Ram Kumar Nunia, social workers Narayan Debnath, Giya Uddin Laskar, Swapan Paul and Nasir Haji.
Highlighting the objectives and significance of VDP Day, the speakers said the VDPs have been playing a great role in generating a sense of security and belongingness among communities and working in tandem with the law enforcing agencies. The meeting ended with vote of thanks by Additional SP (Hq), Kulendra Nath Deka.
