Fortune oil ads featuring Sourav Gangully stopped by Adani group after his mild attack
Jan. 5: Fortune Oil has paused all ads featuring Sourav Ganguly following his cardiac incident. The company had been running ads featuring Ganguly promoting its cooking oil, which claimed to give users a healthy heart. “Leave your regular oil, get home Fortune oil,” he asks viewers.
According to media reports, the Adani group, that markets the ‘heart healthy oil’ under the brand name Fortune, has stopped all ads that shows Ganguly promoting it, which were made by Ogilvy and Mather. The development comes after social media users criticised and trolled the advertisement campaign which promoted the brand as one which keeps the heart healthy.

Former Indian cricketer Kirti Azad was one of many who took a dig at Ganguly for promoting the rice bran cooking oil. “Dada @SGanguly99 get well soon. Always promote tested and tried products. Be Self conscious and careful. God bless. #SouravGanguly,” Azad tweeted.
In the ad, Ganguly is seen turning 40 and still maintaining an active lifestyle and eating deep fried snacks, all because they were cooked in Fortune oil. “Will you stop living if you’ve turned 40? Leave your regular oil, get home Fortune oil,” he asks viewers. The ad claims that the oil would help people raise their “good cholesterol”, while simultaneously decreasing their “bad cholesterol”, and ends with Ganguly and his friends having delicious-looking pooris.
Angshu Mallick, Deputy CEO, Adani Wilmar Ltd, on Tuesday evening said, “We have only taken a temporary break in our TV commercial till we again sit with Sourav and take things forward. This is a very unfortunate incident and can happen with anyone.”
Ganguly on Saturday underwent angioplasty after he was admitted to a Kolkata hospital with complaints of chest pain. He is now said to be stable. According to hospital sources, the former Indian skipper is likely to be released from hospital on Wednesday.
