CBSE Board Exams to be held after Feb. 2021, dates not yet finalised: Education Minister

Dec. 22: The Union Education Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal has announced that the CBSE board exams will not be possible in the month of January and February, 2021. There were speculations with respect to the dates for the board exams that could be announced today. The class 10 and 12 board exams will be held offline and will be held after February. The exact dates of these exams will be announced later after assessing the situation, said Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal during a live interaction with teachers on Tuesday.

Taking to his twitter handle, the Union Education Minister wrote, “I received a lot of requests from students and teachers to postpone CBSE board exams for Class 10 and 12. Keeping the COVID-19 pandemic in mind, we have decided that board exams will not be held in February. Dates would be announced soon.”

One of the stakeholders asked, “When the classes are being held online, why can’t exams are held online?” To this, the minister replied, “There is still a small percentage of students who have not got equal access to education. While we have used unique methods to teach students but having such methods for exams might not be fair. We need a laptop and stable internet and electricity for each student which is a challenge.”

“The CBSE board exams will be conducted on a reduced syllabus. Thirty per cent of the total syllabus has been scrapped. While some states have declared as much, others are likely to make an announcement soon. There will also be 33 per cent internal choice in the board exam,” the minister said.

“Cancelling exams and promoting students without exam will put a stamp on these students. These students might face trouble in getting jobs and admissions at higher education level in future as they would be termed as COVID-era students. We do not want that for our students,” added the minister.
