Usable toilet mandatory for filing nomination in Panchayat polls
November 11: After issuing a notification regarding the two child norm, the Assam State Election Commission has come up with another directive. The Commission has made its mandatory of having a usable toilet along with a two-child norm for all aspiring candidates of the forthcoming panchayat polls.
This was stated by Harendra Nath Bora, State Election Commissioner in an All India Radio talk show on Sunday night. Bora said that ‘the decision of making a usable toilet compulsory has been taken to make cleanliness a priority in society.’
There was a doubt in the minds of many regarding the voting rights of those whose names were not included in the final draft of NRC published on 30 July 2018. In this regard, the State Election Commissioner said that voters who were not listed in NRC draft list would also be allowed to exercise their voting rights.
The Assam Election Commission has announced the schedule for the state panchayat elections which will be held in two phases -on December 5 and December 9, in a total of 26 districts, including 14 civil sub-divisions. The results of the same will be declared on 12 December.
