Silchar Town Congress organises ‘Bijoya Sammelan’
Nov. 8: With Goddess Durga returning to her abode, the Durga Puja and Dussehra celebrations are practically over for this year. With the departure of Durga begins the auspicious period of ‘Bijoya’, in celebration of the victory of good over evil, which goes on till Diwali. To mark this occasion, Bijoya Sammelan (get together) was organised on Sunday at Rajib Bhavan, Silchar by Silchar Town Congress.
This year, the intensity of Bijoya may have waned due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but the occasion was organised by Silchar Town Congress with utmost care. The programme began with 3 dance performances by the students of Nrittayan. The dance numbers based on Maa Durga Stuti captivated the audience.
Narrating the objectives of the occasion, Sajal Banik, President of Silchar Town Congress said, “The celebration of Bijoya, literally meaning ‘victory’, begins right after the visarjan. Today we have assembled to meet & greet each other and offer prayers to Goddess Durga so that the bad phase of COVID-19 may be over soon.”
The Bijoya gathering was attended by Congress Legislative Party (CLP) Leader Debabrata Saikia, former MP & All India Mahila Congress President Sushmita Dev, MLA North Karimganj Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, former ministers Ajit Singh, Siddeque Ahmed, office bearers of APCC, DCC, all other wings of the party and other dignitaries of the town.
