Centre for women empowerment launched by DC Cachar as part of ‘Poshan’ celebration
Sept. 28: Anganwadi Centres run from 8 AM to 12 PM. These centres are free after that. Self Help Groups (SHGs) usually lack space for their training and to take up group activities. Tying these two ideas together, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Social Welfare Department and ASRLM for the first time to use this space for mutual benefit.
Space is being provided under AWC for SHGs to take up activities after normal hours for which the SHGs will ensure upkeep of the AWC, maintenance of Nutri gardens, bring their wards to Anganwadi centres and inspire other women to take up such activities. Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar launched one such project with Parvati Village Organisation taking over the Rajabazar ICDS under celebration of POSHAN.While expressing her views, DC Jalli said that these Anganwadi Centres turn into Centre for women empowerment wherein adolescent girls learn bookkeeping, healthy hygienic practices and subsequently grows up as empowered mothers later on.
