Barak Valley registers 347 positive cases on Friday

September 4: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Friday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased once again. A total of 347 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Thursday, Barak Valley registered 324 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Friday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 146 positive cases   (It was 192 on Wednesday)
  • Karimganj: 175 positive cases (It was 91 on  Wednesday)
  • Hailakandi: 26 positive cases (It was 41 on Wednesday)

In the last 24 hours, 3 more deaths were registered in the valley, out of which, two are from Karimganj and 1 from Hailakandi. The deceased were identified as: Hussain Ahmed Laskar (50) from Silchar Road in Hailakandi was admitted at SMCH on 28 August. He, however, died at 9.40 PM on 3 September. His death was certified as Non-Covid death by the State Death Audit Board. Two more persons from Karimganj succumbed to the infection. The deceased were identified as Niranjan Das (45) & Pritish Kanti Dutta (70) of Karimganj. Their deaths were certified as Covid death by the State Death Audit Board.

On Friday, 146 persons were detected as novel coronavirus positive in Cachar district. During the day, a total of 1421 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, 105 were found positive, whereas, another 41 persons tested positive in RT-PCR Test. There is probability that the number of positive cases may increase at night. This was informed by Suman Choudhry, District Media Expert on Friday evening. As of now,  the COVID-19 tally of Cachar district has gone upto 7,201.

During his routine briefing, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) said, “As of now, 22 patients of novel coronavirus admitted at SMCH are in critical condition. Another 54 persons are put under oxygen support. A total of 181 COVID-19 patients are now admitted at SMCH. At present, 13 persons are now admitted in ICU and 2 of them kept in ventilation. In the last 24 hours, 1 person died at SMCH. Till now, 109 patients have died at SMCH, out of which 42 of them were certified by the State Death Audit Board as Covid confirm deaths.”

26 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district on Friday, taking the total tally to 2,490. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 26 positive cases, 22 have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) while four under RT-PCR. 888 swab samples have been taken on Friday.

Altogether 1,295 cases have been found positive under RAT with over 50 per cent without travel history. 1,999 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals.The number of active cases is 475. Six COVID-19 positive patients have breathed their last at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. 10 deaths at SMC&H have been declared as ‘non-COVID’ by the State level Death Audit Board.144 COVID-19 afflicted persons are under home isolation. Of the 22,744 swab samples taken, 18,828 have tested negative. Swab results of 1,841 persons are awaited.

On Friday, the single day biggest spike of 175 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected in Karimganj district as per a tweet of State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. However, as per the data given by DIPR Karimganj, 127 persons were found positive.  Among them, 91 were detected post in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas, 36 tested positive in RT-PCR Test. During the day, 1556 rapid tests were done in the district. With this, till now, 2737 persons were infected with novel coronavirus. Out of them, 1631 patients were already discharged.

Apart from the valley, a total of 2,891 persons tested positive in Assam on Friday, thereby taking the state tally to 1,21,224. As of now, there are 28,159 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 2,020 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 92,717 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 15 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 345.

The number of total Covid-19 cases in India surpassed the 4 million-mark on Friday with little sign of the virus’s pace slowing in the country. A single-day spike of 83,341 cases has pushed India’s coronavirus tally past the 39-lakh mark, the Health Ministry data this morning showed. The total number of cases now stand at 39,36,347. The country witnessed 1,096 Covid-related deaths during the period taking the total death count to 68,472. 30,37,151 patients have recovered from the infection.
