National webinar on film language & aesthetics organised by deptt of Mass Com, Assam Univ

September 2: Mass Communication department of Assam University, Silchar organized a national webinar on film language and aesthetics with one of the film making genius and renowned Kannada maker of all times, Padmashree Girish Kasaravalli through zoom platform on Wednesday. The webinar was moderated by Dr Paromita Das, Assistant Professor Mass Communication who also happened to be the convener in today’s virtual seminar.

It needs mention here that this seminar was slated to be held in May, but Covid-19 poured cold waters on the initiative of the convener of this seminar. However, surmounting all odds, finally the webinar was organized today.

The welcome speech was delivered by Professor Gyan Prakash Pandey, Dean cum head of the department of Mass Communication. The keynote address was delivered by Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Abhik Gupta. Vice Chancellor of Assam University Professor Dilip Chandra Nath who was the chief patron in Wednesday’s webinar, also spoke on the occasion.

One of the renowned cinematographers of today’s era, Sridhar KS was one of the distinguished participants in the webinar. The film maker, while speaking on the occasion shared his vision of cinema.

An interactive session was also held where the participants placed certain questions before the film maker. Pointing out the strong portrayal of women in most of Kasaravalli’s films, Sridhar urged the film maker to share his views on it. Answering to this question, Kasaravalli said, “I don’t like to re-tell a story. Rather I look for a cinematic language in each story. Cutting the long story short, I look at cinema as a medium of sharing the views of the voiceless.” Moreover, Kasaravalli also shared his views on aesthetics of film making. The methodical director enriched all with his vast experience on film making.
