Seven more COVID-19 cases in Hailakandi, district tally rises to 215

Three more containment zones come up in Hailakandi

June 22: Seven more fresh COVID-19 cases have been reported from Hailakandi district on Monday, taking the total count to 215.Health authorities here revealed that Hafijur Rahman,18, Forizuddin Mazumder 25, Hifjur Rohman, 20, Mashrul Alom Laskar, 20, Abu Sufian Laskar, 22, Bappan Singha, 39 and Sadanmiya Mazumder, 28, have all tested positive.

While three infected persons were under institutional quarantine facility at B.Ed College and one at Royal Guest House facility quarantine centre while three were under home quarantine at Boalipar Part II, Lalakandi and Purbogeel.

Following the detection of COVID-19 positive cases under home quarantine, the Hailakandi district administration declared three more containment zones to arrest the spread of the highly contagious disease on Sunday. The containment zones that have come up are at Monacherra Basti under Lala revenue circle where four members of a family, including a three-month old baby have been found to be COVID-19 positive, one at Dinanathpur Part II under Katlicherra revenue circle and the other at Dakhin Sunapur Part II under Hailakandi revenue circle.

Issuing separate orders on Friday evening, District Magistrate, Megh Nidhi Dahal asked the Superintendent of Police to completely seal the boundaries of the containment and buffer zones and to ban the movement of people and vehicles to contain the spread of the disease.

30 persons were infected on Sunday evening, the highest spike recorded so far in the district. 86 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals. There are altogether 127 active cases in the district. Two persons succumbed to the disease. Of the total 5,579 swab samples taken as per health bulletin released on Sunday evening, 4,327 have turned out to be negative while swab results of 979 are awaited from Silchar Medical College and Hospital. 1,533 persons are under institutional quarantine facility and 2,309 under home quarantine.

Screening and swab collection was taken from 205 persons coming from outside the state at the Inbound Passenger Facilitation Centre at Dholeswari Point. In the last couple of days more than 1,200 people have arrived in the district by buses from Guwahati. With more people expecting to arrive, the administration has started identifying more schools, colleges and government buildings, guest houses and hotels to put them under quarantine.
