Project ‘Varivoda’ launched in Karimganj to remove all encroachment & end water logging

June 5: Incessant rains led to clogging of drains in the urban areas of Barak Valley, thereby paving way to artificial water logging in almost all areas. Karimganj town too witnessed such a miserable situation on last Wednesday. People launched instant protest raising severe questions on the role of the civic authorities.

However, this is not a new feature. Karimganj town has been facing incessant flooding every time, after a spell of torrential rains. District Administration Karimganj held a meeting with all leading citizens along with Kripanath Malla MP, Karimganj and a consensus was reached to clear the drains and remove all encroachments as a result of which, there was water logging.

On Friday, 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐉𝐄𝐂𝐓 𝐕𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐎𝐃𝐀 (meaning freedom or relief or comfort in sanskrit) was launched at Maizdi, Karimganj town. This shall continue for the next few days until all encroachments are cleared. The district administration seemed to be utterly committed and vowed to adopt resolute steps to prevent flooding in the town.
