Monday COVID-19 diary of Assam: 146 new cases & 99 discharged

June 1: Indeed another tough day for Assam in the context of COVID-19 scenario in the state. A total of 146  COVID-19 cases were reported from Assam on 01 June. As people stranded outside the state started to pour in, the number of coronavirus cases has been on the rise. It is quite obvious, when people from the hotspots are travelling back to their home states, there will definitely be a spike in the number of positive cases. From one positive case in 31 March, it has now gone upto 1485 on 1 June. A hundred cases a day seems to have become the norm of the day.

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the state was 1339 on 31 May. But on 1 June, the numbers went on increasing almost the whole day and reached 1485. Out of this, there are 1194 active cases in the state.  All eyes seemed to be on the twitter page of State Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. Here is the complete sequence of how the positive cases were reported on 1 June.

  1. June 1, 09.40 AM: 22 new cases; 14 Dibrugarh, 4 Dhemaji, 3 Tinsukia, 1 Charaideo
  2. June 1, 12.05 PM: 23 new cases; 11 Barpeta, 5 Udalguri, 3 Dhubri, 3 Darrang, 1 Sonitpur.
  3. June 1, 03.20 PM: 06 new cases; 4 Charaideo, 1 Sivasagar, 1 Nagaon.
  4. June 1, 09.00 PM: 73 new cases; 30 air travellers, arrived from Kuwait. 12 Cachar, 10 Kamrup, 9 Karimganj, 7 Kokrajhar, 2 Hailakandi, 1 each from Barpeta/Nagaon/Jorhat.
  5. June 1, 11.55 PM: 22 new cases; 10 Kamrup Rural, 6 Morigaon, 3 air traveller, 2 Goalpara, 1 yet to be ascertained.

Amidst this enveloping darkness, there were ofcourse some rays of hope on Monday as the total number of patients cured and discharged also went up to 99 in the state. Till now, a total of 284 patients are discharged in Assam. Let’s have a quick glance of the break-up of 99 patients who were discharged on 1 June:

  • 08 discharged from SMCH
  • 46 discharged from Kalapahar hospital
  • 22 discharged from MMCH
  • 13 discharged from TMC
  • 07 discharged from JMCH
  • 02 discharged from FAAMCH
  • 01 discharged from AMCH

As the numbers are soaring up at an alarming rate, it’s essential for the people to stay at home as far as possible, follow social distancing and hygiene norms. Further, to stay safe, people must also follow government advisory of wearing face masks and washing hands frequently with soap.
