Sleepless night: Himanta goes around Guwahati for smooth evacuation of covid patients

May 17: The phrase “burning one’s midnight oil” seems to be apt for State Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in the backdrop of the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic. On Saturday night, the minister was seen running from pillar to post to manage the outbreak of the pandemic. At around 2.30 in the late night, Himanta Biswa Sarma along with other officials went at Kalapahar Quarantine Centre. By that time it was raining incessantly.

Himanta Biswa was there at Kalapahar to ensure the smooth evacuation of the COVID-19 patient from the quarantine centre to Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH), Guwahati. Another positive patient was also admitted at MMCH. This patient was evacuated from Fatashil Ambari. When the minister was out in the night, it was raining cats and dogs at Guwahati. However, inspite of the inhospitable weather, he was seen busy making arrangement for sending the recently detected patients to the hospital.

Taking to his twitter handle, the minister wrote, “One #COVID positive patient is at Kalapahar Quarantine Centre and We went there to ensure smooth evacuation. The other person was evacuated from Fatashil Ambari Both have been admitted to MMCH. We are also in process of taking the third patient to Tezpur Medical.”

Now, the total tally of COVID-19 patients in the state has gone up to 95. However, out of the 95 patients, 41 were already discharged. Two persons lost their lives due to COVID-19 and another two of them migrated. So at present, there are 50 active COVID-19 cases in Assam.
