15 banquet halls in Cachar to be converted into quarantine centres

May 03: The outbreak of Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) is a potential threat to the human life and measures are being taken by the District Disaster Management Authority to create awareness amongst the general public and to contain the entry or spreading of the virus in the district. The Health Department with the support of the District Police and Airport Authority of Kumbirgram Airport, ASTC Authority, Railway Authority Cachar is conducting health screening of all the visitors/ tourist/ commuters and general public entering through the inter-state Border of Cachar District.

With the resumption of inter-district and inter-state movement of people, more space will be required for quarantine facilities. Keeping this aspect in mind, Cachar district administration has decided to acquire the banquet halls in the district and convert them into quarantine centres. In this connection, 15 banquet halls have been earmarked by the administration.

In an order issued by Deputy Commissioner, Barnali Sharma on 3 May, it was stated that, “In order to provide better assistance to person requiring quarantine, the following amenities and resources available within Cachar District are hereby taken over by the Disaster Management Authority, Cachar until further orders exercising the powers vested with the authority vide section 34, sub-section (a) and (j) of the Disaster Management Act 2005 for making arrangement for Quarantine facilities as a part of containment measures of COVID19.”

As per guidelines issued by the government, ban was imposed on any social gathering. hence, these banquet halls would have otherwise remained unused during the lockdown phase. Here is the list of 15 banquet halls earmarked by district administration for converting into quarantine centres:

  • Jannat Bibaha Bhawan, Silchar
  • Suhana Bibaha Bhawan, Silchar
  • Walima Bibaha Bhawan, Silchar
  • Mehendi Bibaha Bhawan, Silchar
  • Maa Durga Bibaha Bhawan, Silchar
  • Kunjalata Bibaha Bhawan, Silchar
  • Maa Laxmi Bibaha Bhawan, Silchar
  • Taj Blue Diamond Bibaha Bhawan, SlIchar
  • Laxmi Narayan Bibaha Basar – I, Silchar
  • Laxmi Narayan Bibaha Basar – II, Silchar
  • Hashi Kushi, Circuit House Road, Silchar.
  • Grand Hyatt Banquet Hall, Silchar.
  • Utsav Banquet Hall, Rongpur, Silchar.
  • Celebration Banquet Hall, Silchar.
  • Ashirwaad Bibaha Bhawan, Silchar.

The order further specified that, “The concerned Proprietor of the Bibaha Bhawan shall release/ handover the above fatalities to the Circle Officer, Silchar Sadar Revenue Circle, Silchar/ Joint Director of Health Services, Cachar District with immediate effect. This order will come into force with immediate effect.”
