Voluntary blood donation camp kick starts at Red Cross Hospital, Silchar

April 29: In compliance with the request of MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy and Union Minister Dr. Harshvardhan in a video Conference, Indian Red Cross Society, Silchar has organised an in-house voluntary Blood Donation Camp which stated from Wednesday and will be continued up to 2 May, 2020 at Red Cross Hospital Silchar.

MP Silchar Dr Rajdeep Roy and Deputy commissioner, Cachar, Barnali Sharma, who is also the President of Indian Red Cross Society,S ilchar visited Red Cross hospital, Silchar on Tuesday and inaugurated the Blood donation Camp along with Dipayan Chakraborty, Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Silchar by lighting the lamp. It was reported that 50 Donors have donated blood in this lockdown period.

During the inauguration of the camp, MP Dr. Roy said that the second phase of lockdown is going on and about 32-33 days have already passed. A total of about 400 packets of blood have been stored in the blood bank during the lockdown period. Some more blood has been used. Expressing his concern, Dr Rajdeep Roy said that if the number of patients in the area increases, there will be a severe shortage of blood, that’s why a blood donation camp is arranged and will be extended for seven days.

He said that if 10-15 blood donors donate blood every day, about 250 packets of blood would be stored and the people of Silchar, including the valley, would be greatly benefited. He informed that those who wish to donate blood can do so between 11 AM to 2 PM daily from 28 April to 2 May. The blood donation process will continue with health-related safety measures in place.

At the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Barnali Sharma expressed her gratitude for organising such blood donation camps. She also thanked all the donors for their great work. Dr Akhil Paul, Chairman, Indian Red cross Society, Silchar, Executive Members of the society Bikramjit Chakrabarty,bRathindranath Saha,bNiloy Paul, Sujon Dutta and Abhijit Paul were also present during the occasion.
