AIDSO commemorates birth anniversary of Ishwar Chandra, organized rally & students’ assemblage

September 26: Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar (1820-1891) was as one of the pillars of Bengal renaissance who managed to continue the social reforms movement that was started by Raja Rammohan Roy in the early 1800s. Vidyasagar was a great Bengali polymath. He was a philosopher, educator, writer, reformer and philanthropist. To commemorate his 199th Birth anniversary, Cachar District Committee of AIDSO organized a rally and students’ assemblage.

Students participating in the rally raised slogans of reintroducing the system of pass-fail and to fill up the vacant post of teachers immediately. The rally started from Gandhi Bagh and went around the major points of the town and returned back to Gandhi Bhavan where the students’ assemblage was held. While addressing the students, Swagata Bhattacharjee, President of district AIDSO spoke on the objectives of this assemblage. Pallabh Bhattacharjee, Treasurer of district AIDSO urged upon the house to adopt a resolution against the increase in examination fees by Assam University.

The main speaker of the assemblage was Hillol Bhattacharjee, Vice President of Assam State committee of AIDSO. He highlighted the various facets of life and career of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. He criticized the present government for attempting to saffronise education system of our country. He alleged the BJP government for reviving the medieval superstitions and religious fanaticism in the society.
