Curfew relaxed in Shillong for 14 hours, internet services still remained suspended

December 18: In the backdrop of violent protest in and around Shillong on the issue of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, curfew was imposed. On Wednesday, the curfew was relaxed in Shillong for 14 hours from 6 AM till 8 PM. As per an an order issued by District Magistrate MW Nongbri, the curfew will be reimposed from 8 PM onwards till further notice. Meanwhile, mobile internet services continue to remain suspended in Shillong.

The areas under curfew include Jaïaw, Mawkhar, Umsohsun, Riatsamthiah, Wahingdoh, Mission, Mawprem, Lumdiengjri, Lama Villa, Qualapatty, Wahthapbru, Sunny Hill, Cantonment, Butcher Road, Mawlonghat excluding localities beyond Umshyrpri bridge, entire Khyndai Lad (Police Bazaar), Jail Road, Keatinge Road, and Polo.
