December 11: The Katigorah Truck Owners Association have alleged that from the last few months, the cement factories situated in Meghalaya gives undue privileges to the trucks from West Bengal, Jharkhand, Jammu and other states while loading cement, thereby ignoring the trucks from Barak Valley. In this regard, the Katigorah Truck Owners Association has submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar.

In the said memorandum, the association has further stated that an unholy nexus has been created by the transport lobby of Lungslun in Meghalaya. This syndicate gives preference to around 70 to 80 trucks of other states while loading the cement bags, thereby neglecting the claim of the trucks from Barak Valley.

It is in this connection that the association has requested DC Cachar to take up this matter with her counterpart of Jaintia Hills and to come to a amicable solution as early as possible. They said that the income of the truck owners have considerably decreased and so they are even unable to pay the installments of their vehicle loan at proper time.

Speaking to newsmen, Zabir Hussain Laskar, President of Katigorah Truck Owners Association said that near about 500 registered trucks from Barak Valley sit idle. Most of the trucks were purchased via bank loans. The owners have complained that as because their trucks fail to get loaded regularly, so they suffer heavy financial loss. He also said that, if their problem is not solved soon, then they will stage a huge protest.
