District wise breakup of Bengali Hindus excluded from NRC to be disclosed soon: Himanta

November 29: The final NRC list of Assam’s National Register of Citizens (NRC) was published on 31 August, 2019. Out of a total number of 3,30,27,661 applicants, the names of 3,11,21,004 were included in the final NRC. That means a total of 19,06,657 persons were excluded from the NRC. However, neither the district wise break up nor the linguistic or religion based break up of the NRC left outs were made public.

However, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, stated that the State Government has a district wise breakup of the number of Bengali Hindus that have been excluded from the NRC which could not be made public earlier. He said that the number of Bengali Hindus of the State that have been excluded from the final NRC would soon be disclosed to the public. As per reports, the actual figures of Hindu Bengalis excluded from the NRC are to be revealed before the Legislative Assembly in the first week of December.
