Major fire breaks out opposite Silchar Fatak Bazar Kalibari, many shops gutted

October 10: A major fire broke out opposite Silchar Fatak Bazar Kalibari on Thursday late night. The fire broke out at around 12.30 in the night. Around 15 shops including Gopal Enterprise were completed gutted in the flames. Another 8 shops also were partly damaged. The exact cause of the fire has not been ascertained as yet.

As per eye witnesses, people of the locality saw flames coming out of Gopal Enterprise. They at once raised a hue and cry and tried to douse the fire. However, the flames spread very fast and engulfed the nearby shops. Meanwhile, police from the nearby Sadar Thana arrived at the spot. Fire fighters also rushed to the spot and started dousing the flames.

Around 4 fire engines arrived by 1 AM and jumped into action. The fire was brought under control by around 2 in the night. As most of the shops did not have any insurance so they won’t be getting any compensation. Though there was no reports of any casualty, but prima facie estimate revealed heavy loss of goods amounting to crores stocked inside those ill-fated shops.
