August 29: Former MP of Silchar and President of the All India Mahila Congress Sushmita Dev said the people of Assam are peace-loving, and there won’t be any disturbance or violence in the state after the publication of NRC. She further said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah should resist himself from making any “irresponsible statements” on the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Ms Dev while addressing a press conference at Nagpur on Wednesday said, “I want to tell Amit Shah that he had, in Parliament, said that 40 lakh people who are out of the(draft) NRC are intruders and there is a need to expel them.” She regarded such statements as irresponsible and said that, “they create anxiety among people.”

Meanwhile, Sushmita Dev tweeted, “The NRC will be out on 31st August. Undoubtedly genuine citizens are left out. How is India going to face the world after creating lacs of stateless people. Bangladesh won’t take them back. Till date, they deny illegal migration into India.”
