Under-construction bridge collapses at Jiribam: 7 labourers injured

মণিপুরের জিরিবামে নির্মীয়মান সেতু ভেঙে সাত শ্রমিক জখম হয়েছেন। খবর পেয়েই কদমমলা থেকে আসাম রাইফেলস জওয়ানরা ছুটে যান। তাদের উদ্ধার করে প্রাথমিক চিকিতসার ব্যবস্থা করেন। পরে নিজেরাই নিয়ে যান প্রথমে বরবেকরা প্রাথমিক স্বাস্থ্যকেন্দ্রে। সেখান থেকে পাঠানো হয় জিরিবাম হাসপাতালে। ২ জনের অবস্থা আশঙ্কাজনক হলে তাঁদের নিয়ে আসা হয় শিলচর মেডিক্যাল কলেজ হাসপাতালে।

জিরিবামে গোয়াখালের ওপর ঝুলন্ত সেতু তৈরির কাজ চলছে। দুদিকে খুঁটি বসিয়ে মধ্যবর্তী অংশে প্লেট বসানোর কথা ছিল। কিন্তু আজ সকাল ৮টা নাগাদ শ্রমিকরা খুঁটি না বসিয়েই প্লেট বসানোর কাজে লেগে পড়ে। এতেই এই দুর্ঘটনা ঘটে।

Seven labourers were injured after an under-construction bridge collapsed at Jiribam in Manipur. On being informed, Assam Rifles soldiers from Kadammala reached the spot. They rescued the injured labourers and made arrangement for priliminary treatment. After that they took the injured first to Barbekra Primary Health Care Centre. From Barbekra, the labourers were then sent to Jiribam hospital. Out of the 7 labourers, the condition of 2 of them was reported to be serious. Both of them were later on brought to Silchar Medical College.

The work of construction of a hanging bridge was going on over Goakhal in Jiribam. The labourers were supposed to fit plates on the middle portion of the bridge after placing two pillars on the two ends. However, at around 8 AM on Wednesday, the labourers started to fit plates on the middle of the bridge without fixing the pillars. This led to the accident.
