Death of journalist Molin evokes anger

July 29: The death of photo journalist Molin Sharma on Sunday night in a tragic hit & run case has evoked anger of the common people of Silchar. At around 3.30 PM, a group of ladies went to meet the Superintendent of Police at his office. However, Additional Police Super Jagadish Das met the ladies and informed that the Police Super was out of station.

The ladies belonging to various walks of life then gheraoed the Additional Police Super and demanded that the Police Super be immediately informed to come over to his office. Slogans were raised by around hundred women of the town against chaotic traffic management.

The ladies then wrote a memorandum wherein they demanded that tripper vehicles along with other heavy vehicles should be allowed inside the town from 1 AM till 4 AM only. They alleged that this is not the first time that a death has occurred due to rash driving. After 10 PM the streets of Silchar town become a death bed due to rashless driving of heavy vehicles.

They further demanded that CCTV cameras should be installed in all major parts of the town. Finally, Additional Police Super Jagadish Das said, “We have agreed to the demand that heavy vehicles will now ply within the town from 1 AM to 4 AM.” He further said that the police will definitely apprehend the killer vehicle which took the life of Molin Sharma.

Finally, the ladies present there also gave a call for 12 hours Silchar bandh on Tuesday. They appealed to all to support them voluntarily and make the bandh a success. Speaking to way2barak, they said, “Enough is enough. There should be a limit to lawlessness. Tomorrow’s bandh is against the failure of the administration in every sphere of life.”

Meanwhile, when the body of Molin Sharma was kept near Gandhi Bagh, Laya Madduri, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar arrived there. The ladies present there greeted the Deputy Commissioner with “shame shame” slogans.

Present over there were Sudha Mundra, Anju Patoa, Sampa Banik, Tumpa Roy Goswami, Madhuparna Basak, Jhumki Saha, Sangeeta Banik, Misti Das, Debjani Roy, Sonali Banik, Anindita Dey Paul, Aditi Choudhury among others.
