Assam govt. contemplates total ban on plastic bags in the state

June 5: Assam minister of state for health Piyush Hazarika announced that the Assam government has planned to ban plastic carry-bags all throughout the state. In the sidelines of an event at Kharupetia on Tuesday, Hazarika told newsmen that the process to ban the use of plastics has already started and the health department has written to the authorities of all the civic bodies to take necessary steps. The minister further stated that a Bill in this regard will be introduced in the next Assembly session.
