Peace Rally taken out by Hailakandi District Administration on Thursday

May 16: In a proactive move, the Hailakandi District Administration took out a peace rally in the town on Thursday accompanied by a large number of people belonging to the political clan and civil society. The prime objective of the peace rally was to convey a message to the people for maintaining tranquility and communal harmony in the district.

The peace rally was spearheaded by Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi along with the Superintendent of Police Mohneesh Mishra. Both of them stood in a hood-less vehicle who were accompanied by the public. Hailakandi MLA Anwar Hussain Laskar, Algapur MLA Nizam Uddin Choudhury and Katlicherra MLA Suzam Uddin Laskar also took part in this peace rally.

It was a unique rally planned by the district administration wherein patriotic and peace songs were also played on the streets.

On last Friday, 15 persons including three police constables were injured in the communal clash which took place on last Friday in Hailakandi town. The clash had broken between people of two groups when some local residents protested against namaaz being offered on a road in front of a mosque. Following the incident, curfew was clamped in the entire district on Friday which continued till Monday.
