2070 Kg poppy seeds seized in Silchar

way2barak, September 15:  One vehicle bearing Registration No. AS 01 VC 2850 was intercepted yesterday at Digorkhal Check Point under Gumrah PIC .

On conducting a thorough search of the vehicle, 69 bags of suspected poppy seeds were recovered from the vehicle. The bags containing the suspected poppy seeds were found concealed inside bags of Indian bay leaves in an attempt to evade detection.

The total approximate weight of the recovered suspected poppy seeds is 2,070 kg .

In connection with the recovery, two persons, namely Bipul Boro and Arun Boro, both residents of Goalpara, Assam were apprehended for necessary legal action.

The recovered suspected poppy seeds and the vehicle have been seized as per procedure, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source, intended destination, ownership and other persons involved in the transportation.
